Lost in Thought 2021 Canvas, magazine, paint, and glue 18" x 12" The story behind this piece was to show people that are not able to express their feelings. This piece is to let others know that many people deal with this. In today's world sometimes expressing your emotions can be hard and you may not have been taught how to appropriately express your feelings in a positive way. My personal experience, I have met quite a few people who have a harder time than others in expressing their emotions. People who suffer from Alexithymia suffer from not being able to express their emotions and I wanted to show that it is ok and that many others also suffer from this. I know it can be hard for some, myself included, in connecting their feelings to actual words and/or phrases. My plan was to make an image that others can connect to. I want it to communicate the feeling of not knowing what words connect to your feelings or not being able to express them. In this art piece, I want people to see that the person in the artwork is putting up an act of acting happy while want they truly feel is sadness. The pieces of collage represent all the words and/or phrases that are running through this person's head. The title of this artwork is “Lost in thought” because I want everyone who is lost in their thoughts and can’t seem to focus to connect to this art piece.
Time Lies 2021 Drawing paper, Pencil, and markers 18” x 7” My artwork or rather the story about my artwork is about a man who is not in the best place of mind but he meets a girl who brings him out of the dark place and truly lights up his day. She stops all his negative thoughts and helps to make him a happier person (you can tell this because of how he went from a darker gray to a lighter, almost white color.) Even after all the help she has been, she eventually leaves him all alone again. The man enters back into his negative state, except now instead of thinking all his negative thoughts, he can now only think about her and all the things she did for him. How she helped him. How she made his life better than he ever thought it could be. I made this piece because I feel like a lot of people can relate to this project especially in today's world. In my own personal experience, I met someone who I thought like the man in the piece did, that would make my days better. They did for a while but just the lady, they too left. Many others have also been through the same thing, “The right person, wrong time.” You hear that saying all the time and you never stop to think that you too could go through that. But it happens to the best of us. We find someone who makes our lives a little bit better in this age and we think it is going to last but sooner or later something may happen and you end up figuring out, it was all at the wrong time. This piece could have many names, starting at genertice such as “right person, wrong time” or even stepping it up a little with a title like “Love of tomorrow”. People will connect different titles to this piece as they feel it should be called. But for me, when I look at this piece all I can think of is “Time lies.”
